There is only one thing you should be eating if you visit the Cook Islands - fish. It is fresh, local and delicious. The islanders have perfected the art of not overdoing the cooking, keeping it simple and letting the produce do its best.
If you are lucky enough to come here then there is certainly one place you should visit which is The Moorings in Muri on the east coast. It's a no frills place, essentially a hut with picnic benches, but it serves excellent fresh fish sandwiches daily straight off the boat. We had Mahi Mahi sandwiches that were too delicious to record...

The staff were really friendly too and even provided a high chair.
For a more romantic dinner (if there is such a thing with a baby!) try Tamarind in Avarua. The restaurant has been converted from the old Queen's representative's house in a pretty beach side location. It states that it is "fine dining", which by Rarotongan standards it probably is (you get a table cloth!) but is still very good with decent size portions and local flavours. I can recommend the shrimp and paw paw salad. Thomas loved the paw paw... that's a new one for weaning!
